Coping With Online Classes

The COVID-19 has resulted in schools shut all across the world. Globally, over 1.2 billion children are out of the classroom.

As a result, education has transformed dramatically, with the phenomenal rise of e-learning, where teaching is undertaken remotely and on digital platforms.

For those who do have access to the relevant technology, it is evident that learning online can be more effective in various ways. Some research shows that on average, students retain 25-60% more material when learning online compared to only 8-10% in a classroom. This is mostly due to the students being able to learn faster online. E-learning requires 40-60% less time to learn than in a traditional classroom setting because students can learn at their own pace, going back and re-reading, skipping, or accelerating through concepts as they choose.

However, there are a number of challenges that students face that include technical issues, lack of motivation and connection to the subject, and going down a spiral of procrastination.

Here are 5 tips that will help you beat the disorientation and get your act together!

1. Productivity Apps: Apps like Notion help stay on track with all the college assignments and lectures. Writing down tasks for the day into a list acts like a brain dump and relieves one of all the stress of getting things done. Now you’ll never have a reason to forget your deadlines and important tasks!

2. Dedicate to a study spot : There’s nothing more motivating than having a clean, organised study desk. Having a particular spot at home , dedicated just to studying/working, helps create discipline. Every time you take a break from studying, move out from your study spot and then return back with a sense of refreshment.

3. Dress up like you would’ve for college/School: Staying all comfortable in PJs and lying in bed, while watching lectures can make you want to take your tasks less seriously. It’s all about the human psyche. Trick your brain into thinking that you’re attending a class just as much as you used to in college before the pandemic hit us.

4. Move your body: As the trite saying goes “All work and no play makes jack a dull boy” - It’s important to work your body as much as you work your brain. Exercise helps improve the overall mood and concentration while performing tasks. From yoga to HIIT, a small twenty-minute workout can go a long way!

5. Sleep : Want to get your act together and have a productive day tomorrow? Start tonight. A lot of people don’t know that a habit starts from the night before the planned day. Getting an 8-hour sleep is imperative to focus and plays a major role in synthesising the hormones that one needs to carry out daily activities.

That being said, We can’t control the pandemic and the situation we are in right now, but we can definitely take our life by its horns and smash our daily goals. It takes a little practice and a lot of patience, but it's achievable.
